I think camille and amma both display manipulative tendencies (obviously amma is much more sinister) bc of Adora’s treatment of them and it makes me wonder how Marian would have turned out had she lived to be as old as either of themĪlso Amma is very much a combination of marian and camille, and i personally believe that was very intentional of Adora bc she liked the rebellious nature in ann & natalie but also enjoyed marians obedience. I think trauma induced mental illness is highly subjective and complex like a lot of diagnoses overlap, the specific circumstances might amplify some maladaptive behaviors and minimize others. She might only feel safe in institutionalised life. Would she want to though? Sometimes the healing process can be too painful. She was young, and people who have suffered abuse and made it out are still whole, sane, capable and beautiful people. Could a sane person come out at the other side? You'd hope so. The amount of trauma she would have to process is quite literally monstrous. Anger has the misleading trait of making you feel like you're in control, only for you to later find out that you've made everything much, much worse. paranoia ('m going to get caught, people are going to find out and ruin everything) generalised depression (I'm so worthless my mother only wants me around to watch me die) narcissistic by default ('My feelings are all that matter, even if it kills other people' thanks for that lesson MUM) suffering a fucked kind of Stockholm syndrome by so deeply loving her captor She's BPD for sure (fear of abandonment/disregard fed by having an unstable sense of self, feeling disposable and having no idea of what a future for herself could entail, intense difficulty regulating emotions) She's both abandoned and trapped in this situation. Her own father doesn't protect her, he protects her abuser. The threat of abandonment looms over her if she stands up for herself and stops her mother actively *killing her*. I'd imagine Amma also figured out her mother killed Marian which puts a whole normalised spin on the concept of murder. Her urge to kill the girls who got Adora's attention for 'free' is hardly psychotic, and more a deeply unstable reflection of the unfairness of the abuse she's enduring and her inability to process it. Her mother is literally killing her, and it's the only way she gets the love, validation and emotional intimacy that she needs. Her violence is where the anti-social personality aspects shine, but that's a blanket diagnosis covering many different and varying symptoms.
